New Years fireworks

As the new year approaches and we revel in the excitement for what 2022 has in store for us, it’s also important to reflect on the successes and challenges from the past year.

Here at Custodio & Dubey, 2021 was a year of growth. Let’s take a look at some of our greatest hits of 2021!

In May, founders Miguel Custodio and Vineet Dubey were featured in the Los Angeles Daily Journal, which focuses on the firm’s roots and their office’s move to the 25th floor of the Union Bank Building. Moving to this 4,200-square-foot space was not only a spatial upgrade, but a symbol of their plans to grow as a firm.

Vineet filed a lawsuit against Nurture Inc. on behalf of Ecological Alliance LLC in June for selling baby food products, known under the brand Happy Tot, containing more than 12 times the maximum amount of lead a child can be exposed to in a day. Happy Tot retailers Whole Foods and Target were also named in the lawsuit. “Whole Foods wouldn’t sell an apple grown with pesticides, yet they keep selling baby food containing appalling amounts of lead to unsuspecting parents," said Vineet.

Continuing the fight against lead in baby food, in early October, Vineet filed another lawsuit on behalf of Ecological Alliance LLC, this time against Gerber for having toxic levels of lead in two of their baby food products. Vineet also made his TV debut on Newsy to discuss the lawsuit!

Following the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of ‘Rust’ in late October, Miguel was sourced in several print and broadcast media outlets as a legal analyst. Watch his segments on Telemundo, Court TV and Newsy, and read his insight on The Daily Beast, USA Today and Fox News!

Just a few weeks later, Miguel was sought out again by reporters from Vice and TheWrap to bring perspective and aid in their reporting after the tragedy at Travis Scott’s Astroworld festival. From his experience as a personal injury attorney, Miguel told reporters, “Similar to the Alec Baldwin case, we have Travis Scott as the performer having liability, as well as Travis Scott the producer with separate liability.”

Lastly, in mid-November, Vineet filed a lawsuit against Trader Joe’s on behalf of Ecological Alliance LLC for selling five food products with enough lead per serving to affect reproductive health and development if consumed daily. “We all love and trust Trader Joe’s. That’s why it’s disappointing to discover they are selling foods they have been told contain absurd amounts of lead,” said Vineet.

As we ring in the new year, we hope to continue growing and look forward to what is to come in 2022. Remember to be safe in your celebrations, and Happy New Year!
