It’s finally Christmastime! Families and friends now gather together, homes are lit with holiday displays, yule logs keep our living rooms toasty and in many parts of the country, kids are building snowmen.
With all the revelry and kinship that comes in with the season it can be easy to overlook some of the potential liabilities that can result from holiday accidents.
That $99 hoverboard Santa brought for little Jimmy might just have a defective lithium battery. That string of LED Christmas lights may overheat on that too-dry tree that’s been up since the day after Thanksgiving. And probably the biggest holiday risk is being on the road with other drivers who overdid it at their office Christmas party.
So while you celebrate, remember to be safe. Take care with candles and make sure to never leave them burning when you’re not around to watch them (and blow them out). Don’t overserve your drinking guests who may be driving. Keep your dog on a leash or safely indoors if he’s the kind that wants to bite carolers or dinner guests. Make sure cords for your outdoor decorations aren’t a potential tripping hazard. Use a fireplace screen to block flying embers. And keep pot handles turned in and out of reach of grasping little toddler hands.
Meanwhile, what’s Christmas without a few Dad jokes?
